.Ashwagandha - Withania somnifera - This is the root in powdered form. We love growing this plant and is especially beautiful when the berries peak through their lantern like cocoon in the fall. This is one of our favorite Adaptogen herbs and we use this herb/root regularly. Said to promote Testosterone in men, it's a favorite to use with low T and men in high stress jobs.
We love growing this plant!
Ashwagandha is known as Indian Ginseng. The translation of Ashwagandha is roughly, “the smell and strength of a horse”, although I have found that it smells much better than any horses we have around here on our farm. lol
We harvest this plant on the full harvest moon.
We grow this adaptogenic herb on our certified organic, Re-Gen farm. It can be used in a tea or extract.
Ashwagandha is known to help build energy and has immune-potentiating properties. It is used for calming and grounding ones self and is known to help with mood regulation, depression and sleep, thus its second Latin binomial, somnifera which reflects its ability to promote sleep.

Katherine Thomas Bio:
I am a Certified Herbalist, Grower and wildcrafter. I have spent over 20 years studying plants. While I have had a love for plants since I can remember, in 2012 I wanted to know how these herbs work and what chemical compounds are found in these plants. I wanted to know why and how they interacted with the human body. I reached out to botanists, herbalists and the local indigenous people. I studied the flora, as I was (and always will be) intrigued by what is growing around me and found great resources from people in my community including Barny Lipscomb and Robert O'Kennon who co-authored Flora of North Central Texas. As they inspired me, my curiosity only grew. I am fortunate enough to have the guidance from some of the Cherokee and other indigenous peoples as well. Some of the greatest rewards can come from listing to our ancestors. There have been many whom have guided and mentored me along the way.
I studied at Trinity School of Natural Health and received my CMH certification. There I studied and have over 500 hours in Herbal Materia Medica, Kinesiology, Herbal Preparations, Chinese Herbology, Aromatherapy, Living Chemistry and Medical Jurisprudence. As an alumni at Trinity School of Natural Health I have access to some of the most educated scholars in the field of natural health. I feel truly blessed to have been and continue being mentored by these professionals. I can truly say I am grateful for the relationship with our Mother Earth and all of the gifts she has given us. And I spend countless hours on our 100 + acre farm enjoying what these herbs want to teach me. I am the Founder and teacher/mentor at Fortress of Faith Adventures where people can experience hands on with regeneration practices. I am a member of the OAA, TravelOK.com, certified organic grower, and work with many others in our community.
